Dear CYC Supporter,
We have just finished our 4th Week of CYC Classes and what a great Summer it has been thus far! The CYC
Directories have arrived and can be picked up by paid CYC members at the Boutique during Boutique hours (see new
hours below).
Our co-head instructors Ben Ross and Scott Zolkos have done a great job of directing our
bustling program of avid CYC sailors along with third instructors Ellis Lehner, Beau Monast, and Jamie
Walker.
The Wednesday afternoon family race series continues to be popular at all ages and skill levels and
with all three classes of boats being used to their maximum and intended potential.
The biggest change this
year has been the addition of non-competitive Ladies Only Sailing lessons on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-6:30.
Ben and Scott started the ladies out in larger groups in the Sea Robin and the Beaver , but many have graduated to
Lasers and 420's. All skill levels are welcome at the Ladies Only Sailing night. See the CYC Bulletin board for
sign details or see Ben Ross. All pre-paid participants must be CYC members, must sign the CYC waiver form, and
must wear a life jacket. Capped at 15 pre-paid participants per class (only $20.00 per person), we have
experienced waiting lists so please pre-pay and sign up early.

CYC HOSTS TYC (TIVERTON) FOR FIRST EVER REGATTA AND FUN
Thanks to Ben Walker, our Inter-Club Racing
Director, the CYC hosted its first ever regatta with Tiverton Yacht Club on July 14-15th.
TYC brought 15
young sailors and the CYC had just as many. The weather was perfect at Church's beach so that parents and
supporters were able to see all seven races from their beach towels and the kids were shuttled in and out on the
Carolina Skiff and Mako. The CYC, as always, was competitive.
In the evening, we had a great party on the
Garfield lawn with
vollyball and wiffle ball. Exhausted on day two, the kids all had a fun sail before the TYC
group left on on the PM Latte.

CYC and IDA LEWIS YACHT CLUB MET AGAIN ON JULY 17th
Again thanks to Ben Walker, we had another competitive
regatta with Ida Lewis on July 17th with the CYC taking the Laser Class and Ida Lewis taking the 420
Class.
In weather terms, it was a carbon copy of the TYC/CYC regatta earlier the same week, and so Church's
beach was again the place to see all the racing.
The instructors did a great job of coordinating all the
sailors so that everyone in A Group managed significant racing time throughout the day.
Thanks to all of the
host families who put up our visiting sailors for both regattas!

As we
move forward into August, the CYC will be sending over 6 A Groupers to the Beverly Junior Regatta to race Lasers so
we will keep you posted on their results later prior to the August CYC party which will take place on Saturday
August 23rd, at 5:30 PM, location TBA. We may also squeeze in one more regatta here or at Ida Lewis.
In
closing, this is my last year as Commodore and Alison Granger will be taking over as Commodore at the CYC annual
meeting on August 24th, with Julie Mason moving up to the Vice Commodore role, and David Frothingham stepping in as
the Rear Commodore. It has been a great experience working with all of you and thanks for all your support and
volunteer efforts over the years!
We anticipate a great August and in spite of of skyrocketing energy costs
around the country, the CYC will continue to create its own "Cuttyhunk Energy" on the water- and free of charge-
thanks to the fair winds of Buzzards Bay and the spirit of its sailors. I will be here all of August and hope to
see you on the island!
All the best,
Angus L. Garfield Commodore Cuttyhunk Yacht Club "Our
